Travel in Melbourne | Melbourne Bubble Tea Reviews Part 1 | LilacSuitcase

Hello everyone, below is a list of bubble teas that we have tried so far. This may be helpful for you in finding the best bubble tea that suits your liking in Melbourne. Please be noted that the sequence of bubble tea mentioned below is random and we rated each bubble tea based on the bubble tea that we have ordered only. We gave a few bubble tea with the lower rating because it does not suit our tastes but please do not be discouraged to try the other flavours of milk tea from that particular shop. We have no intention of discouraging anyone to not visit any bubble tea shop. We believe each bubble tea shop has its own signature drink(s) and everyone should have their own bubble tea shop favourites.

1. Narocha

📍 59 Therry St

Rose black milk tea with pearls

Overall: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Milk Tea: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Topping: ⭐⭐⭐/5

Comments: This is one of our favourite bubble tea in Melbourne. Narocha has one of the best milk tea in our opinion, the taste of the tea was quite strong which we liked. We ordered 30% sugar level for this drink. At 30% sugar level, we think the sweetness was just right and we could taste the flavour of the tea better as compared to standard sugar level (we have tried both standard and 30% sugar level for this milk tea. We gave 4/5 stars for this drink because the pearls were not the best. Don't get us wrong, the pearls were good but it's not the best. It tasted like the standard pearls which were chewy throughout. (unlike some pearls which have a softer and slimy outer layer, hope you get what we mean😂 ). This drink came with the cheese foam topping which gave a subtle tartness and saltiness to the drink. The flavours of the milk tea with the cheese foam was so yummy!

Thai milk tea with pearls

Overall: ⭐⭐⭐/5

Milk Tea: ⭐⭐⭐/5

Topping: ⭐⭐⭐/5

Size: large

Comments: We ordered this milk tea with standard sugar level and it was too sweet for our liking. We really appreciated the strong flavour of the tea. It was quite strong but not bitter. We highly recommend you to order this drink with adjusted sugar level. 👍

Hojicha Makiato with pearls

Overall: ⭐⭐⭐ + 0.5/5

Milk Tea: ⭐⭐⭐ + 0.5 /5

Topping: ⭐⭐⭐/5

Comments: The Hojicha taste was quite strong and you get a sweet aftertaste from the natural flavour of the tea. We ordered 30 % sugar level for this drink and it was yum. We gave 3.5 stars for this drink because there was a bit of powdery texture of the hojicha powder which we didn't quite like. Overall, it was a good drink. We think 30% of sugar was just right, not too sweet or too bland. 😎

2. Tea bag 芝士嘟嘟

📍 421 Elizabeth St

Smash taro fresh milk with taro balls

Overall: ⭐⭐ /5

Milk: no rating

Topping: ⭐⭐/5

Comments: This beverage consist of mashed taro, taro balls and fresh milk. We have no ratings for the fresh milk because it is standard and normal fresh milk. We ordered less ice and 30% sugar level. The taro was mashed but you get a few bigger chunks of taro. You will probably like this drink if you like chunky bits of taro in your drink. Unfortunately, we like thick and smooth taro paste in our taro bubble tea so we were disappointed with this drink. Another reason we didn't quite like this drink was because of the taro pearls which not as chewy as we would like our taro balls to be. 😕

Brulee milk tea with pearls

Overall: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

Milk Tea: ⭐⭐ ⭐⭐ /5

Topping: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

Comments: As you can probably tell from the ratings already, we love this bubble tea! We ordered less ice and 30% sugar level. The Brulee cream gave so much flavour to this drink and elevated the texture of this drink. We had bits of the cream when sipping through the straw. The milk tea had quite a strong tea flavour and complemented very well with the cream. The pearls were good, they are those standard pearls that are chewy throughout.

They added crushed Oreos on top of the drink, it added some crunch to the beverage. We stir this drink a bit with the straw before drinking, we don't think these drinks were meant to be stirred well because it does not come with a sealed top which allows us to shake before drinking. We gave 4 /5 for this drink because it was quite cloying at the end. We think it was because of the cream that was making the drink cloying. The ratio of Brulee cream to the milk tea become more when we’re finishing the drink and the cream itself was overly sweet. However, overall it was a very yummy bubble tea.

3. The Alley LuJiaoXiang

📍192B Lonsdale St

Snow Velvet Earl Grey Tea

Overall: ⭐⭐⭐ /5

Tea: ⭐⭐⭐ /5

Topping: ⭐⭐⭐ /5

Comment:.The tea itself was quite strong which suits our taste and the cheese form was smooth and slightly salty which complements the tea well. The pearls are slightly softer than the standard pearls. The pearls have a thin coating of the slimy and soft layer. Overall, it's a good bubble tea. This is a good choice if you like good quality iced tea.

Brown Sugar Deerioca & Fresh Milk

Overall: ⭐⭐⭐ /5

Milk: no rating

Topping: ⭐⭐⭐ /5

Comment: The pearls had a slimy brown sugar coating and when paired with fresh milk, the sweetness was tolerable. The pearls were softer and less chewy than the standard pearls. As the pearls were cooked with brown sugar syrup, the pearls were much sweeter and flavorful than standard pearls. However, the pearls can be over cloying especially when you are near to finishing the drink and you get more pearls than the fresh milk. We initially wanted to order 30% sugar level but they didn't provide sweetness adjustment for this drink. We recommend you to get this bubble tea in the size 'small' as it can be overly sweet after a few sips.

We hope you find this post helpful.
